Takeover Makers Channel by de Persgroep Nederland

The online video platform Makers Channel has been purchased by de Persgroep Nederland.

There is an increased use of online video amongst readers and advertisers. This makes it a logical expansion of De Persgroep's portfolio. This takeover will contribute to realising its digital ambitions. Makers Channel is a platform as well as an advisor and producer of online video for brands and media parties.

Makers Channel was established in the summer of 2015 as an online video platform where influencers and web talents were able to offer their videos "on demand". The platform currently has about 3.5 million video starts per month, with 4 million page views. It has grown by more than 25% per month since it was established. Makers Channel offers video makers an expansion of quality and reach in the form of extra media strength. It recently collaborated with FOX, Glamour and the AD. A few high-scoring names in the network: ex-footballer Ryan Babel, gamer Milan Knol, Instagram hero Lizzy van der Ligt, musician Lil Kleine, culinary expert Jet van Nieuwkerk and Fajah Lourens. In addition to its own video platform, Makers Channel is also an advisor for brands that want to work with "short form" online video. As well as this knowledge, it also has its own in-house video production unit. This team is completely dedicated to "made for web" series.

Erik Roddenhof, De Persgroep Nederland: “De Persgroep's brands and enormous daily reach complement Makers Channel's knowledge and skills in the area of short form video. This is a great cocktail for our readers, advertisers and video makers. Makers Channel, editorial staffs and partners will work together to develop new video formats that will enthral our readers on a daily basis. Our collaboration with Ziggo, which commenced earlier this year, and the purchase of Makers Channel are important steps forward.” Marko van Kampen, Makers Channel: "We have experienced enormous growth since our establishment. We grew from nothing to a strong position in the Dutch online video market within 16 months. Our merger with De Persgroep suits our ambition to offer a solution in the distribution and production of online video for lots more content partners in the Netherlands. The adventure is only getting started".
